No idea what happened, but it seems like this plane failed to reach the runway…any ideas where this may have happened?

Actually, I do know what happened here. It was right around the end of 2004 – Sometime in December, in Northern Iraq. The runway was under construction – the dirt square you see in picture #3 was runway being repaired. Unfortunately, due to an error on the part of the airfield manager, no NOTAM (notice to airmen) was sent out informing aircrews of the unavailable runway.
The C-130 landed at night, under cover of darkness (it was a special ops plane), on what would have been the best runway at the airfield, if it hadn’t been for “the pit,” which the plane hit while traveling down the runway at speed, shearing the landing gear and causing other catastrophic damage.
Thankfully, while there were several injuries, there were no fatalities.
