Wow that was very moving! Really breaks my heart what were doing to our planet. As much as the few people that care try to stop it, there are just too many idiots that just don't care. It's very sad. I wish everyone could look at these and then actually do something about it. But that will unfortunately never happen.

I think somebody should create at least one day once a Year, when all people just do somethink positive for our Earth ..like plain more trees or recycling what they found around at streets and not to use cars if they have an alternative ...

Nicely illustrated but sadly it misses the main issue. The current growth of the global population and long term desires of the developed world are unsustainable with the available global resources. Stopping global warming, planting trees etc it's all a quick fix (thou very useful to give time).

If you want to save the world we know, the things that help most are:

1. Have one child at most and encourage this policy at all times. Birth control, condoms, abstaining whatever the simple economics doesn't care. This is by far the best thing you can do. Even if 3 vegan kids consume less resources than 1 "average" kid. In the next generation, the 9 ecowarriers to the half kid of the single child model won't.
2. Eat locally made produce indeed the more local the better.
3. Don't travel by plane. Cheaply broadening your mind is killing the planet. Recovering this carbon footprint is very difficult. Plus even if you do recover it your supporting an industry that certainly does not.
4. Do not buy organic food it's less efficient land usage. If it went mainstream it would result in bigger farms and less "natural" land. Cows are very inefficient fertilizer synthesis machines cleaner chemical plants are what is needed. (Possibly you could extend this argument to GM but the results aren't clear yet).
4. Support nuclear as a quick fix until solar gets there. Yes, yes I know this is controversial but kwh/kg it's by a mile the most efficient standard solution. Plus and very crucially the waste is dangerous but concentrated and thus localized. (The biodiversity increase around the reactor area at chernobyl since the accident shows people are much worse for nature than radiation).

Or you could, live as you pretty much were before. Driving your 4 kids to school with their lunch boxes full of non nestle, organic, non GM foreign produce toting sound bites about deforestation and blaming America (or companies if your American) whilst praying for supernatural intervention.

Stunning and thought provoking images. Unfortunately humans have had such a major and detrimental impact on the world that probably within a few hundred more years of complete mismanagement there won't be much of the old world left. As if we can possibly even understand the intricate systems that have evolved over millions of years into what is a perfect balancing act, its beyond our limited minds. Planting trees isn't the answer, maybe not felling so many in the first place would help. Many species will dissapear or be condemned to a pathetic life in captivity to protect them from us whilst earning their saviours some cash.
The Earth will be just fine and no matter what we do it will recover, it doesn't work on our short timescales. Anyhow in 7 billion years the Sun will consume our solar system so you know the what the end game is ;-)
Enjoy today and have some consideration for tomorrow...love yourself, your family, your friends..and don't absorb any of the crap spoonfed to you through the TV, and crappy magazines..your awesome

Wow, great ideas. If only they were good enough to change things. This is something that we must all have to think about and make changes not in others but in oursleves. I love trees, now that it is summer over here, they are the only ones who can give us a fresh shadow toe scape from the sun.

Humans put God in charge? I think you have that backwards bro. It really is a shame what we are leaving behind for our grandchildren to try and fix I know they won't be able to bring back the animals that we've driven into extinction but hopefully they can fix the mess we have made of the planet. if not them them then who their children or grandchildren I don't know what I do know is that it didn't happen over night so it won't get fixed over night either. It's going to be a long hard road for a lot of dedicated people. I hope we and the next generations are up to it!

I kind of see how the plant more trees ads could be misconstrued, but I took it as saying "You should have planted more trees instead of either a. enlisting in the army and ending up dead in an illegal war or, b. the gvmnts should be planting trees instead of starting wars. "

Either way, whoever is doing these ads is insanely creative and a top notch designer. I liked the ones with the animals as bums and the tiger made out of little tigers demonstrating their population decline.

For those going back and forth about global warming, it's really irrelevant. Our current way of life is unsustainable regardless of climate change. There is a mass extinction going on that is a direct result of our way of life regardless of climate change.

It's not the Earth that is really in trouble, we are just making it impossible for our species to have a future here. If we die, it'll recover once we aren't putting all these strains on it. But is that the result you really want?

But anyways, it has been conclusively accepted by the scientific community that despite the natural and known cooling and warming trends, that the current warming trend is either caused or at least being exacerbated by our C02 emissions.

Am I the only one who finds the "Plant More Trees" adverts a trifle offensive? They seem to be saying "plant more trees so you can use them as cover in battle," and they really provoke a lot of connection to the War on Terror that might push a few unintended buttons.

if you want to end elite rule, we need to create an internet democracy. it wouldnt be tyranny of the masses because only ideas and initatives that are selfless, of, for, and by the people would gain the majority of support. we need a government think tank to tap the creative human potential and to find the best and brightest ideas and initiatives.
