    and no. 1. bull riding

  • just a thought Says: June 8th, 2008 at 10:50 pm

okay, horseback riding should be on that list. it is the most dangerous sport in the US. falling off of a 1500lb animal hurts way more then most of those other sports could. i think that cheerleading should be on the list somewhere too. i do not agree with this list.

  • Ashley+DJ Says: June 11th, 2008 at 5:57 pm

For all who say cheerleading is not a sport- UR STUPID….not to be bias or anything, but horesback riding….sky diving….Base jumping….and diving: all of those things take balls to go out and do, not being athletic but daring. Cheerleading takes TALENT, endurance, flexibility, heart, and being athletic. We could go out and do half of those (what people like to call sports) by paying someone money and then telling us how to do it. Then we would just have to take a deep breathe and jump out of a plane, or sit on a horse, or jump of a cliff (in which we do every year as it is in Arkansas) it isn’t hard! Just takes a moment to decide whether or not you really wana jump. So not to be mean…..but half that B.S is not a sport! Maybe a little dangerous….but only for a second! Cheerleading is taking a risk throughout the whole year….all cheerleading is, is just a…….***DANGEROUS SPORT!!!!***

  • Brian Says: June 17th, 2008 at 2:29 am

I think that most of those sports should not be on that list. Hockey and lacrosse should be on it though. go on to http://WWW.youtube.com and type in hockey hits or lacrosse hits, and you will agree with me

  • Nana Says: June 23rd, 2008 at 12:36 am

Gymnastics is actually an olympic sport and I think it is one of the most dangerous, toughest sports out there that not too many can do the olympic level tricks after puberty. Other sports are easier compared to difficulty!!!

  • alyssa Says: July 20th, 2008 at 2:36 am

cheerleading gymnastics and horsebackriding are more dangerouse then some of those “sports”

  • alyssa Says: July 20th, 2008 at 2:38 am

ohh and the reasong cheerleading is soo dangerous is because its a mix of gymnastics/tumbling dance running and getting tossed very high in the air

  • caveman Says: July 22nd, 2008 at 1:42 am

    Lacrosse is the most dangerous

  • Blue Moon Says: August 11th, 2008 at 12:35 am

Umm, cheerleading is not as dangerous as Horse Back Riding.

    Let me ask you this

Would you rather be tossed in the air then fall on the ground?

Or be tossed in the air the stepped on or ran over by a 900 pound animal that can continue to do it?

Hmm, never move you body again ( or killed ) or a load of back pain. – -

  • Blue Moon Says: August 11th, 2008 at 12:43 am

Oh and HORSE BACK RIDING does take TALENT, endurance, flexibility, heart, and being athletic! I should put you on my horse and take him and you out on a 3 DAY event and see if you still feel like cheerleading takes more heart and guts then Horse back riding.

Ask if the Olimpics thinks that Horse Showing isn’t a sport. Maybe they can tell you.

Don’t get me wrong cheerleading is dangerous too. I just think horse back riding is more.
I know cheerleaders that agree with me that horse back riding is more dangerous after my speech about it.

PS. Proper Riding for a hour burns 400 calories. How much does Cheerleading do?

  • Gracefulskater Says: August 11th, 2008 at 5:02 pm

Yeah but I have to say figure skating is way more dangerous than cheerleading. And by the way cheerleading shouldn’t even be a sport. Anyone could put on some little outfit and jump around yelling. Figure skating take grace, power, felxibilty, attitude, and guts. Throwing your self into the air and having a great chance of fall on the ice wih no pads. And hockey is up there too. Way up there. I do both and many people dont understand how dangerous it is.

  • nicole Says: August 26th, 2008 at 1:29 pm

i think horsebackriding by far is the most dangeruse sport try crosscountry riding the horse can flip over the jump and crush you to death verry fast .and tothose who say you dont have to be athletic your wrong id like to see you get up on my 17 hand oldenburg horse!

  • Dan Says: August 30th, 2008 at 5:04 pm

Not sure if you guys are all being ironic or not, but I think that Forbes made this list based on the per capita injuries and fatalities, weighting permanent injuries and deaths. I know that all of the more popular sports that you’ve been talking about have a risk for broken bones and sprains and, in the case of hockey, even an occasional death… but base jumping and SCUBA diving, if something goes wrong, there’s usually no chance to get injured. You’re either a pancake on the bottom of the Grand Canyon or you lose consciousness and drown. Since these are much less common sports than hockey, lacrosse, skating, equestrianism, and cheerleading you’re not likely to hear about accidents in these more dangerous sports. If you figure that for every 1 base jumper there are probably 1,000 cheerleaders… 1,001 people would have to die cheerleading for every 1 person that died base jumping to make it more dangerous.

  • LegendaryJoey Says: September 18th, 2008 at 5:39 pm

    Cheerleading is for little girls.

which is cool…but not as dangerous…

sure people fall on mats and sometimes get hurt.

Try getting hit by a 350lb linebacker, and that doesnt happen every once and a while or on accident.

ok horseback riding is not as dangerous. you fall but the horse keeps going yea. and i agree some of those sports up there shouldnt be. and cheerleading is the most dangerous sport. they say 50% of back, spine, or head injuries are from cheerleading.

girls are being thrown up 20-50 ft up in the air. horse youre just being thrown back. and yea get hurt but cheerleading people have been killed or paralyzed. i am a cheerleading coach myself and research this stuff about safety. hosreback riding its easy to hold on for dear life. in cheerleading when you’re thrown up in the air, you cant be positive something is going to go right.. i fly i would know. cheerleading definately takes intelligence and athleticism. a lot of it.

and for those who think lacrosse is more dangerous… no, i played lacrosse too and its not even close to as much dangerous as cheerleading is.

  • Riles Says: October 13th, 2008 at 12:48 pm

Cheerleading is a dangerous sport. you not NOT getting dropped from 3 ft in the air. You ARE being dropped from 15-30 ft in the air. and basketball is NOTTTTTTT as dangerous as cheerleading. i used to play basketball and it was NOTHING COMPARED TO CHEERLEADING! and cheerleaders arent girly girls.. its just the stereotype. that was 15-20 years ago.. cheerleading is now about ability and im sure that those who dont think its a sport just cant do it. and figure skating? ive done that too and you are only falling like 5ft ..cheerleading is higher chance at risk of dieing or getting hurt. people are just jealous.

i even asked a high school football coach and a college football coach and they both said cheerleading is definately harder.

  • JZ Says: October 14th, 2008 at 4:22 am

how is cheerleading dangours? i’d say mixed martial arts is dangours…the point of the sport is to hurt you oponent as badly as possible you get punches with the equivalent force as a jack hammer thrown at you and you get kicks to teh face and ribs and get slamed to the ground…that beats cheerleading in every aspect…
but s for common sports i’d say 1)cricket-the pitcher is ALLOWED to chuck a hard ball 95miles/h at you and if it catches u on the head u would only get a 5 inch long fracture even cheerleading beats that (i’m being sarcastic)

2)rugby/foot ball you get 300 lb linebacks hitting you with the equivalence force of a 40 mile/h car. even cearleading will break more bones than that (again being sarcastic)

    3) hockey- ever wonder why there are so many protective gear used? well u get 95 mile/h slap shots bouncing off of you and the puck is solid rubber not to mention the body check+slap shot combo if you do a little research you will be suprised how much injurys hockey players recieve and yes bare knuckle fights are a big part of the sport.

    4) free style sports like bmx, free style snow board/ski – in these sports you do back flips rail grinds etc if u are a guy and is doing a rail grind on skis or skate boards and just so happens that you fall, landing with the rail in between your legs…

    5) down hill mountain biking- if you fall it will be a face plant into rocks, roots, bushes, mud etc…

  • Jacy Says: October 15th, 2008 at 12:56 am

Cheerleading IS dangerous, but the majority of people I’ve asked (which included my cousin who rode for a long, long time and was a cheerleader for 5 years) said that horseback is more dangerous. My cousin said that she got MORE injuries within 2 years of riding than 5 years of cheering. Try controlling an animal that is more than 1000 pounds of almost pure muscle with a mind of its own. It takes guts to get on a horse and make it do things it probably doesn’t want to do. When they say no, they mean it, and when they do, it can result in injury. I ride and I’ve been to the ER twice because of it and I haven’t been injured in cheer yet. Watch any video about horseback riding accidents and you’ll probably change your mind.

  • Roni Says: October 16th, 2008 at 9:36 pm

How many people do you think have been paralyzed and killed in riding accidents? “Its easy to hold on for dear life” Ha, just what I want to do when a horse is flipping over on me. And of course its extremely easy when you are on a horse that flips out and wants you off. I would like to see a couple of you that say its easy hop on my Thoroughbred and take him around a course…if you manage to get around and stay on I would be extremely shocked. And it’s not necessarily falling that is dangerous, its how you fall. Actually, a classmate of mine is in the hospital right now with her pelvis broken in 4 places, along with her tail bone, because of a horse flipping on her (it spooked, lost its balance and landed on her). And all those pro event riders who were seriously injured in the past couple years due to horses falling on them, I’d like you to sit there and tell them cheerleading is more dangerous. With riding you have to remember that there are two athletes…and one is 1000+lbs. of muscle with a mind of its own.

  • Jacy Says: October 19th, 2008 at 12:46 am

I agree with Roni. I saw a video once of horse accidents and this one clip was where a woman was going over a jump and the horse hit it and she went straight over (followed by the horse) and got her head squished by its hindquarters. One of my favorite riders, Margie Engle, had to have some kind of surgery on her mouth because of a fall, and she broke her jaw I think. It’s not anywhere NEAR easy to ride. It might LOOK easy, but if you get on a horse (no matter how experienced), you’re putting your life on the line. Horses are NOT thinking ‘teamwork’ like cheerleaders. If the horse doesn’t want to do something, it won’t do it (unless it’s really well trained, but even then, they still put their hoof down).

  • sam Says: October 22nd, 2008 at 3:54 am

cheerleading is definitely one of the most dangerous sports. unlike football, when we get hit, we don’t have padding. and the reason you may not hear of as many cheerleading injuries is because if we can still move, we’re not going to go to the hospital just to have them tell us we can’t cheer. we just get over all the pain and injuries we get all season and keep going. from cheerleading, i have tendinitis in both knees, which never stop hurting, stabbing pain in both my arms, i have a new bruise every day, and i can’t even count how many times i’ve had someone fall on my head/neck. it pretty much happens everyday. i’ve also been kicked in the face many times. so yeah, for those of you who say cheerleading isn’t a sport, or cheerleading isn’t dangerous, i’d like to see you try it.

  • Jacy Says: October 22nd, 2008 at 7:01 pm

i know cheerleading is dangerous because i do it. i’ve never gotten any of that stuff, and neither did jess (who, like i said, cheered for five years) or any of the other one’s on her team. in horseback, we have to get right back up to. when i had an almost-broken rib from a fall, i still had to get back on and keep trotting around.

  • sam Says: October 22nd, 2008 at 10:46 pm

i mean i know horse back riding is dangerous too, but in cheerleading if you get hurt, you have to keep going. at one of the competitions i was at this year, a girl’s flyer came down really hard, and she got hit in the head. she fell, but when she got back up, you could tell she had no idea where she was, but somehow, she kept going to get through her routine, because cheerleaders are pretty much trained to keep going, no matter what’s wrong. she was so hurt she didn’t even walk off the mat. she fell to that mat after the routine and people had to go out to the mat to help her get off. the same kind of thing also happened to a girl at a different competition, except her flyer threw her head back while coming down from a full down, and the girl kept going, and the only reason she stopped was because she passed out. so yeah, cheerleaders have to keep going when we’re hurt too.

  • Jacy Says: October 24th, 2008 at 6:01 pm

riders have to keep going when hurt too. i’ve been thrown billions of times, and most of them weren’t just a bruise or a scratch. i’ve been to the ER for some of the injuries before.

  • Jean Says: October 31st, 2008 at 6:47 pm

Sorry, reading this wall just makes me laugh. All of you are like “no, my sport is more dangerous than yours” “no, mine is!” and it’s all very mature.

As far as the sports list, I agree everything on here is very dangerous, but I don’t agree that they are all sports. I think things that are in the Olympics or have been considered for the Olympics should be considered sports- these are all generally “extreme” sports.

That being said, I personally think that gymnastics is more dangerous than cheerleading, since cheerleading is really a subset of gymnastics. Besides that, other than flyers in tosses, you stay more or less on the ground.
I will also agree with the assessment that horseback riding is a very dangerous sport. You are atop an animal that can weigh well over a thousand pounds, jumping over large obstacles that can kill you if you hit them wrong, and if that horse steps on you or falls on you if you both get thrown over an obstacle, you’re dead. Earlier, someone pointed out it sucks to have a 300 pound person hit you in football. Picture that, but with a horse.
Other than that, I definitely agree lacrosse, hockey, soccer and football are dangerous sports.
I just think horseback riding and gymnastics are definitely more dangerous.

    Just my two cents.

  • anonymous Says: November 8th, 2008 at 1:20 am

I think you should just all shut the hell up. Lets just say that every sport has its share of dangers and get on with our lives…

  • Jeff Thompson Says: November 17th, 2008 at 11:09 am

How about I bowl an over at you cheerleaders. You can have a small piece of wood to protect yourself. I will bowl it at you head. Either that or you can dance around with short skirts.

  • Brianna Says: January 6th, 2009 at 1:24 am

I think horseback riding to much moe dangerous than cheerleading. i have a horse, and although is is only 14.1 hands high, she is dymanite with a mind of its own. I was just sitting on her at a barrel race (but i mainly jump) and she shake. The saddle horn hit my thumb and blood shot everywhere. I almost had to call the ambulance because i couldn’t drive. When i got to the ER, i found my thumb fracture in two places and the nail completely torn off. I’ve also broken my tail bone from being bucked of. I’ve blacked out from hitting the ground so hard, and I’ve fallen off at a show when it was raining and couldnt walk. I finally got back up a few minutes later after i was half carried out of the ring. Then, I got back on, and won blue ribbons for jumping in the same show. That was really hard, especially if you have done this.
My cousins are cheerleaders, so i see that side too. They mainly have muscle strains and pulls, which i had repeatedly when doing cross-country. Cheerleading is not that dangerous, you have mats beneath you and people to catch you that only drop you from less than 20 feet it they’re idiots.
    I rest my case.

  • Brianna Says: January 7th, 2009 at 5:07 am

I was thinking today that, in horseback riding, you have the hieght of the horse, which for most people that jump around 5 1/2feet, plus 3 feet for the torso of the rider plus the hieght of the fences you are jumping ( lets say 3 feet), you have about 11 feet that you are falling. In Olympic levels, your horse is around 6 feet max. and the fences are around 6 feet, plus 3 feet torso, you have 15 feet that you fall with the risk that your horse could fall on you or run you over. Basically, you have a very good chance of dying while riding a horse. Then, if you consider barrel racing, you have the 8 feet, plus the turning and spinning around the barrels. You could slam into walls are just shot off the side of your horse if it doesn’t rate properly. You have to add in the speed of how fast you are moving to. In cheerleading, you only move up if you’re a flyer. In horsebackriding, everyone moves forward and upward. You have to be balanced perfectly through all gaits, even the canter, not just standing still. And as far as the tumbling and gymnastics go, try vaulting, gymnastics on the back of a cantering jorse, in a circle I might add, which makes the moves more difficult. Imagine yourself doing a backhandspring. Now picture yourself doing it on the back of a horse, while dismounting and landing! I have vaulted before, and it is nowhere near easy.

I am not saying that horseback riding is the most dangerous sport, but if you take a look at all the people killed each year in ALL disiplines, like jumping, cross-country, racing, rodoe events, vaulting, and all the others I failed to mention; then look at all the injuries including just sprains and pulled muscles, and you will see it like I do. Combined, it is more dangerous then all cheerleading and gymnastics, of all types. Sprains and pulled muscle are among the most common of injuries a cheerleader sustains, even then I think us equestrians outnumber them because, while riding, you are almost always using all your muscles, and in gymnastics, you only use them while doing stunts.

You must also take into consideration that you are working with a live, unpredictible, STRONG, heavy animal that, if it got irritated, could buck out off, rear, rear and fall over on you, bite you, kick out, step on you, and trample you and other things. Even a horse refusing to jump a 1 foot fence is dangerous because you could still fall off and slam into the jump. Even this still hurts and could cause a broken arm or leg.

Forgive me if you think I blew up about this, but I did. I will not accept the fact that people think that cheerleading is more dangerous than horseback riding. Cheerleading isn’t even a real sport or it would be in the olympics.

    WOW

  • chickadee Says: January 10th, 2009 at 4:41 pm

I think Gymnastics is very dangerous, why you say??? like jean says, cheerleadind you stay on the ground. Gymnastyics is constantly so much force all the time you can’t afford to fall. even simple tricks like back tucks and aerials are extremely dangerous. you have no one to catch you like in cheerleading, you can’t blame your injuries on them, its your own fault if you break your arm. its all you. not just standing on someone and yelling in extremely showy clothes, its all concetrated… not little tricks here and there. see its one suicidal move after another. i do it and have had my fare share of er time because of gymnastics.
It is incredibly incredibly incredibly easy to loose grip, twist the wrong way, land on your neck, tear ligaments, snap your neck, dislocate a limb, break a bone, crack your head, get a concussion. Did i forget anything??But i love it so i do it. thats why we gymnasts do what we do. we are not showing off like cheerleading. we love to fly through that air knowing it is all us not a group of everybody else down there ready to catch us if we mess up. and horseback is extremely dangerous i will say i have tried it ! i don’t do it anymore my mom won’t let me.

and sam listen up i have tried cheerleading. I CAN’T STAND IT!
have you tried doing a double back layout on the bar and then getting your ankle caught on the lower one and the rest of you keep going because of all that power and then landing on your neck? and going to the er after finishing the routine and not knowing where you were or who you where???????? Then having a cast for 3 months on your ankle and missing the sport you loved? Didn’t think so. And have you had an 1000 pound horse roll over top of you or kick you in the face??(the horse didn’t roll over me but i did get kicked)i think you would rather have a little girl not a wild beast kick you agreed?
and cheerleading may take endurance but for like one hour at a time.
i think the football jocks can play without them.
and cheerleading was invented relying on other sports… gymnastics, and sports to cheer for.
in gymnastics we do our own cheering.
has anybody noticed that womens teams have no cheerleaders?? so cheerleading is only for girls going out in mini skirts showing “endurance” and screaming themselves silly and flirting with guys correct?
“cause you can’t flirt with the girls so they don’t need us”
i have cheerleader friends in high school and cousins (and it may be hard yes but they only have muscle pulls and occasinly tears because they are in a state competition level and the idiots belwo her couldn’t catch her) who had gymnastics first and they said that cheerleading was “not hard or straining as gymnastics and is not considered an olympic sport”
Oh and have you tried mountain climbing????? too bad your not in a nice little gym with pads below you and people to catch you and water bottles and snacks, you climb that mountain and you fall you fall to the bottom of who knows where. i agree some of these aren’t hard and your a moron if you try to do them.
not to slam cheerleading, but im tired of girls in mini skirts saying there sport is the hardest.
oh and how many people have died from cheerleading???

you cheerleaders go to you tube and look up gymnastic bloopers and mistakes see if you think cheerleading is hardest.

  • livelovecheer Says: January 10th, 2009 at 8:09 pm

ok….i have a question….why ISN’T cheerleading a sport? Gymnastics is a sport and gymnastics is clearly involved with cheerleading. I’m not saying that cheerleading is the MOST dangerous sport in the world because it isn’t. Sky diving is way more dangerous and so is mountain climbing. But cheerleading is a dangerous sport.

Cheerleading takes extreme precision, balance, courage and dedication to learn some of the cheer stunts and tumbles that we learn. Just like every other sport, you have to practice at it. But cheerleading is more dangerous than some sports. I am a cheerleader and i have seen serious injuries from being dropped from high toss stunts. And to all the guys who say that cheerleading is girly or easy or doesn’t take any agility, why don’t you try it and then you can come back to me and tell me it isn’t a sport. And cheering isn’t just about jumping around in mini skirts! We cheer on our fellow schoolmates and friends and support them instead of put them down. Also we entertain others and we all enjoy it, just like everyone enjoys the sport they play… so don’t ever tell me cheerleading isn’t a sport because i know for a fact it is.. and i don’t care who thinks it isn’t because it takes the same qualities to become a cheerleader just like other sports!

    live, live, cheer for life

  • TheBoxer Says: January 17th, 2009 at 2:34 pm

Since when did this become a “cheerleading debate”? Obviously when SCUBA diving if something goes wrong, you’re DEAD. Nope, we humans can’t draw oxygen from water. As for the genius that thinks you don’t need athletic ability to do it?? Wake up! If you weren’t in great shape you wouldn’t be fit to dive, not to mention swimming is exercise in itself.

Agreed hockey is dangerous. What about other contact sports such as boxing? I wonder where they’re ranked. And yes, it takes a LOT of courage to step into the ring!

  • Barbara Says: January 17th, 2009 at 8:21 pm

WOW!! What an argument. The men think their sports are more dangerous and the women think theirs are also. This is a battle of the sexes I would say, not about danger. Can we all admit that most sports are dangerous. Football, hockey and all the more obscure sports or whatever you want to call them, are of course dangerous. So are the ones women play gentlemen. You just don’t get involved so you wouldn’t know. Just as we girls don’t get involved, at least physically, in your sports. Now, I’ve never been a cheerleader and I do think it’s strange to be considered dangerous, but what do I know, I’ve never done it. With all the comments that have been made, it must be dangerous. English horseback ridings I have done. In one year I broke 3 ribs, broke my arm, and was thrown from a bucking horse and landed head first, just as Christopher Reeve did. I was lucky I can walk. All of those events happened separately and again, in one year, the last year that I rode. Of course there were many injuries in the 4 years before of my 5 year riding stint. By the way I was in the hospital for 2 months after landing on my head and no it wasn’t my fault in fell. My horse was spooked. So, I think its fair to say sports are just plain dangerous, but so is walking across the street.

snowboarding is one of the most dangerous because hitting a 120foot jump spinning and landing switch and you could fuck up on a rail and cheerleeding isent even a sport and if it was you fall from like wut 3 feet horse back riding shouldent be dangerous because to fall off a horse you would have to be a fucking retart and hocky should be on it and skateboarding

  • jacy Says: January 18th, 2009 at 4:57 pm

you don’t have to be a retard to fall off a horse, if the horse spooks or decides it doesn’t wanna do something, it will throw you off.

  • Brianna Says: January 28th, 2009 at 8:47 pm

in regards to what shelbi said: are you stupid?! there is jumping, cross country, dressage, and reining in the olypmics. and most cheerleaders dont wiegh 150 pounds unless they arent a real cheerleader. if you wieth that and you cheer, go on a diet now! now, you mustv’e looked up cheerleading accidents on youtube, but have you ever looked up riding accidents? dont think so. if you say you used to ride a horse, whar disipline did you ride? western sports and pleasure arent a dangerous os others, so if its western pleasure i dont want to hear it. try being a jockey and being shut in an area like the gate with a hot racehorse, knowing this could be the last time you ever see/hear/smell/taste again.
donie: you are the retard. you fall from more than 3 feet cheerleading, and i happen to be in AP and honors classes and ive fallen off a horse many a time. horses are live, unpredictable animals and are never 100% safe and tame like your snowboard/skateboard. they arent even alive. my brothers skateboard, and let me tell you, its not that dangerous unles your pro and you push yourself too hard. they mainly just get bumps and brusies, theyve NEVER been injured seriously in skateboarding.
all sports require flexiblility, endurance to learn + train, courage, balance, and dedication. some require more than others, but i think the most dangerous sport should be decided on total DEATHs, not injuries, and wether you are working with a animal or an elemnt (like sky/cliff diving)

  • Brianna Says: January 28th, 2009 at 8:49 pm

  • opnorth Says: January 29th, 2009 at 11:57 am

Cheerleading isnt a sport because with out a reason to cheer i.e real sports your sport wouldnt exist. Cheerleading piggybacks off other sports. Cheerleading first started back in 1898 for a Princeton football game. without football cheerleading wouldnt exist. period.

  • Brianna Says: January 29th, 2009 at 12:15 pm

wrestling is not the oldest sport, hunting is
and cheerleading can be competitive, just ask my cousins who used to be in cheerforce in california. high school/ college cheer in the wannabe sport, otherwise, i agree about the cheerleading. paramedics are required at most sports, proffessional or not. in horsebackriding there are vets too. at fairs that i compete in, you cannot put your horse away until it is back to a normal heart rate, pulse, repiration, and tempature. i dont think you do that for cheerleading, probably because its not that hard or dangerous. there are also more disablilities that come with horseback riding. you have to deal with carpal tunnel and knee tendonitis, because if you ride and are serious, you already have these issues, i do and im 14, well today im 15, but still. it is hard to sleep because my arms go numb and limp and wake me up. im scared ill have to have them amputated if i dont get the blood flowing again. some days i cant get out of bed, my joints hurt too much. even my neck. then there are secondary conditions. i also have a cyst on my wrist caused my wrist strain and carpal tunnel. its not fun because i have to wear a splint on the hand and get cortizone shots into it to make it hurt less

  • Brianna Says: January 29th, 2009 at 12:27 pm

    to what Chloe said:
are you stupid too? man, what a bunch of stupid cheerleaders. horses you dont even have to be on them to get hurt. in cheerleading you have to be a flyer in order for in to be “dangerous” and did you pull the 50% out of your butt? because thats wrong. you cant be positive that the horse is going to do what you want. it is a 1,000+ pound muscle machine with a mind of its own and can kill you. not only you have to know the horse your on, be the horse has to know you and you have to trust each other. and about being athledic…. TRY riding, it will surprise you, and im not taking about a nice lesson/trail pony( and those still freak out sometimes), come get on my arabian. she’d have you off in the first minute. oh wait, your a dumb cheerleader, so you couldnt even get on her.

I would like to see any of you Cheerleaders hope on my mare. She is a Brumby and can have a mind of her own. I knew another girl who rode her horse into a dam and the horse rolled on her and drowned.

  • Brianna Says: February 8th, 2009 at 10:38 pm

every sport puts your body into wierd position. and by saying that athletes through balls and cheerleaders throw athletes, your saying cheerleading is only a sport (because you cant have a sport without athletes) if you are a flyer. you are just another statistic that says cheerleaders are dumb. “this makes since” makes no sense, since it is improper english, and learn how to spell dangerous. dont be afraid of the word, its harmless to a person, just like cheerleading.

  • Bethany Says: February 10th, 2009 at 5:58 pm

Ok…I did cheerleading in middle school and was a flyer…I never got hurt…I started riding Eventers when I was 7. Both sports have dangers to them, but the greater danger I believe comes into Horseback riding. You are going a lot faster around 45 mph at full gallop. If you fall you pray the horse stops, doesn’t step on you or fall on top of you. I have played soccer, basketball, tennis and done tae kwon do,eventing, motor cross, 4-wheeling. I’d say the most risk sports are Horseback riding because you’re dealing with an animal that has a mind of it’s own, is 3 to 5 times bigger and it can be hard to control. I’d put motor cross and 4-wheeling after that due to the speed…but each sport has their dangers…

gymnastics is more dangerous than cheerleading because in gymnastics, you depend on yourself,if you fall……bleh.
in cheerleading, they have spotters, AND IF THEY ARE DOING THEIR JOB,then you’ll have less of a chance of falling

Gymnastics. not cheerleading is my opinion, sorry

  • Officiallyy Weezyss Says: February 10th, 2009 at 8:36 pm

I think all sports are a risk, but not really 100% dangerous. A girl died from cheerleading because she landed the wrong way in her group’s arms, so I think cheerleading can definitely be dangerous. What happens when your squad decides not to catch you? or when you land the wrong way? It might not be as bad as being tortured by the feet of a 900 lb horse, but cheerleading can get extremely hazardous.

  • Megan Says: February 11th, 2009 at 10:47 pm

We flip on concrete and a girl stands 6 feeting the air on one foot with two ppl holding her and on cement practice at least 20 hours a week and have
Bigger muscle than 40 year old men! Cheerleading is a sport and a very dangerous one

  • Sidney Says: February 12th, 2009 at 2:19 pm

I can’t belive that all of you think that horseback riding is dangerous! It is only dangerous whenever you are riding a horse that hasn’t been fully trained yet. I have been riding horses for years and never have been thrown off once. The only bad thing that happedend to me was being stepped on by a horse. You really don’t get thrown off alot. I have dne the most dangerous stuff on horses and i never got thrown off once.
Cheerleading isn’t dangerous either. Well it isn’t even a sport so i don’t get why all of you are debating over it. Because clearly the most dangerous sport is sky diving becuase what happens if your parachute doesn’t open up or if you were to land in the middle of a big body of water. I mean come on stop being freakin jerks and talk and debate about real freakin sports.
I can’t belive how many jerks think cheerleading is a sport and that horsebackriding is dangerous. So just learn what a sport is and everybody has their own oppinions.

  • Sidney Says: February 12th, 2009 at 2:20 pm

  • Cousin Guest Says: February 12th, 2009 at 3:19 pm

  • Brianna Says: February 15th, 2009 at 6:48 pm

wow megan and sidney. everybody is dumb these days. why on earth were you practicing on pavement/concrete? running on concrete can be dangerous. if 1 person died from landing wrong in cheerleading, imagine how many there are in horseback riding incidents. and why would your squad decide not to catch you? i know for a fact that cheerleaders, for school or competition. as i have said before, my cousin was on a competition team in california and they practiced for 1 1/2 or two hours everyday. thats a maximum of 14 hours a week. she is now on our schools cheer team and they practice 2 days a week for an hour and shes says they basically sit around and talk the whole time. i dont mean to be mean, i love my cousin, but she is weak and a baby. she cant even make her own sandwiches. do you know how much muscle a horse has? more than your cheer team put together. do you know how much muscle a rider has from controling all that? didnt think so. i am the best athlete in my sports and fitness class, and they have football players, wrestlers, and all the other big sports players in there. i can out do all of them in sit-ups, push-ups, running, squats, and with wieghts. I can lift over 600 pounds with my legs. in my experience, its not the trianing of the horse that has any effect on the danger factor. it is true that the older horses are less likely to kill you, but even they have their days. you are basically saying that olympic horses are not dangerous, because they are some of the most trained horses in the horse. but yet, how many horses AND riders have died in the olympics? more then people in cheerleading, i can tell you that. back to my cousin: she was said that she doenst know anyone who had died from cheerleading in the 6 years she did it in california. driving there is more dangerous because she knows 3 people who have died from that. you may have riden for how ever long, but what did you do? i bet it was an old lesson pony that you rode once a week. and i bet you rode western and it was basic walk, jog, maybe lope. that is the easiest way to be safe and still be able to say you rode horses. and its not always being on them thats dangrous. they can still kick, bite, trample, you name it. if oyu look on other top dangeropus sport topics you will see almost all of them contain something to do with horseback riding and rarely anything at all to do with cheerleading.

  • alexandra Says: February 15th, 2009 at 9:30 pm

Hey i think this sports are dangerous, but you always forget about FIGURE SKATING that has the same risk of injuries than gymnastics or cheerleading, imagine pair skating, if you are the woman, you arebeing lifted (as in cheerleading) by a guy that is standing up in two thin blades, he might easily loose balance and you’ll fall in the ice, where you can sustain serious injuries, or maybe when you are doing camels, you could get hit by a sharp blade in the neck and get killed…
Maybe its not considered as dangerous because is not a common sport, and not much people do it, but you see its really really dangerous, and every sport has its danger:)

  • coll dude Says: February 16th, 2009 at 1:51 pm

the reason these are the most dangerous sports is cuase you could die. I understand you can get hurt in chearleading, but you can’t die.

  • Moi Says: February 21st, 2009 at 7:36 pm

Horseback riding should be there but wtv.
It’s super dangerous, my friend is in a coma right now because it
and guess what she might come out paralyzed at this point
and i fell the exact same way last week i was lucky and landed like a centimeter out of the way!
You can break lots of bones in this sport!
I’ve seen horses being put down on course.
My friend was trampled by her horse and when the horse ran away it kicked in the head.
She almost broke her leg and got a concussion (her 2nd)
and now if she gets one more she has to stop for the year.
This sport if amazingly hard and it tests everyone involvd to the max.
Thats all i have to say.
Some more sports should be in there but Base Jumping earned its spot!
and so did a lot of the other ones so im not saying that this list is all wrong im just saying horseback riding is very dangerous.

I agree with Moi. And like I said, if there is a 150 pound girl on your team and is a flyer, she needs to be fired and go on a diet! Even if she weighed that, its not like only you were holding her up. Like you just said, there are 5 others. That makes 6. 150 divided by 6 is 25. You are really only lifting around 25 pounds. thanks chickadee for helping with my point.

  • Brianna Says: February 24th, 2009 at 10:39 pm

looky what i just pulled of the web:

Riding has some inherent risks, as when mounted, the rider’s head may be up to 4 m (13 ft) from the ground, and the horse may travel at a speed of up to 65 km/h (40 mph).[4] The injuries observed range from very minor injuries to fatalities.
A recent study in Germany reported that the relative risk of injury from riding a horse, compared to riding a bicycle, was 9 times higher for adolescents and 5.6 times higher for younger children. In Victoria, Australia, a search of state records found that equestrian sports had the third highest incidence of serious injury, after motor sports and power boating.[6] In Greece, an analysis of a national registry estimated the incidence of equestrian injury to be 21 per 100,000 person-years for farming and equestrian sports combined, and 160 times higher for horse racing personnel. Other findings were that use of spurs may contribute to ankle fractures and dislocations, and helmets likely prevent traumatic brain injuries.[7]
In the United States each year an estimated 30 million people ride horses, resulting in 5,000 fatalities.[8] A survey of 679 equestrians in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho estimated that at some time in their equestrian career one in five will be seriously injured, resulting in hospitalization, surgery, or long-term disability.[9] Among survey respondents, novice equestrians had an incidence of any injury that was three-fold over intermediates, five-fold over advanced equestrians, and nearly eight-fold over professionals.
The most common mechanism of injury is falling from the horse, followed by being kicked, trampled, and bit. About 3 out of 4 injuries are due to falling, broadly defined. A broad definition of falling often includes being crushed and being thrown from the horse, but when reported separately each of these mechanisms may be more common than being kicked.[10][11]
In Canada, a 10-year study of trauma center patients injured while riding reported that although 48% had suffered head injuries, only 9% of these riders had been wearing helmets at the time of their accident. Other injuries involved the chest (54%), abdomen (22%), and extremities (17%).[12] A German study reported that injuries in horse riding are perhaps less likely compared to other sports, but when they occur they are severe. Specifically, they found that 40% of horse riding injuries were fractures, and only 15% were fatal. Furthermore the study noted that in Germany, one quarter of all sport related fatalities are caused by horse riding.[13] Most horse related injuries are a result of falling from a horse, which is the cause of 60-80% of all such reported injuries.[14][15] Another common cause of injury is being kicked by a horse, which may cause skull fractures or severe trauma to the internal organs. Some possible injuries resulting from horse riding, with the percent indicating the amounts in relation to all injuries as reported by a New Zealand study,[16] include:
    • Arm fracture or dislocation (31%)
    • Head injury (21%)
    • Leg fracture or dislocation (15%)
    • Chest injury (33%)
Among 36 members and employees of the Hong Kong Jockey Club who were seen in a trauma center during a period of 5 years, 24 fell from horses and 11 were kicked by the horse. Injuries comprised: 18 torso; 11 head, face, or neck; and 11 limb.[17] The authors of this study recommend that helmets, face shields, and body protectors be worn when riding or handling horses. In New South Wales, Australia, a study of equestrians seen at one hospital over a 6 year period found that 81% were wearing a helmet at the time of injury.

  • Brianna Says: March 15th, 2009 at 3:47 am

hahaha, actually is was my moms birthday on the 12th. Every sport can potentially be dangerous, including gymnastics. You could sprain a wrist or ankle, or hyperextend your elbow. Plus others. Or, falling off a beam is not fun. I used to do gymnastics when I was little, but I never got hurt. You only go as far as you are willing to push your body, but this is not possible in horseback riding because you are working with an animal. It’s like running with a vicious dog: It could run faster than you and leave you behind, or turn on you, potentially killing you.

hockey is more dangerous then cheerleading. imagine moving at high speed with a stick whacking at the puck. pucks can reach up to 100mph (chara of the bruins). not to mention that if someone falls wrong their blade could accidentally slice you. There is aso body contact in hockey unlike cheerleading. sure u can drop someone in cheering but mabey it would be less dangerous if you caught them. yes i know not everyone is dropped and it does take physical strength but i dont believe cheering is a sport. There is no defense and no offense. You dont really compete against a team you try to perfect you routine to impress the judges and score points by different stunts. You dont actually score a goal or make a basket or get a touch down. You dont even perform on the mat at the same time as the other teams. Sure you physically exert yourself: you run while yelling loud, you throw people up into stunts, and lift people but kids in a play ground yell loud while running, i could throw many of my friends up and sometimes catch them. I prob culdnt throw ppl up into stunts but that all. Im not saying cheerleaders are not athletic cause they are but its just not the dangerous sport. And yes i do believe that there are many other sports more dangerous then hockey but cheering is not one of them.

My sis.in law just 2 days ago-broke her pelvis in 4 places,(while riding her sweet dispositioned newly purchased palamino-*9 yrs old*-)!! I am asking for some feedback on anyone whom has possibly experienced/knows medical info. she is in her late 40’s-hosp. is stating she is to be released in three more days!! Personally when I broke my foot (my dog-leash-no dog control situation-on my part)I could NOT just walk w/out being in an extreme amount of pain!! This was 1 bone crack. How is it pelvic breaks are just a 5 day stay? Can she use the restroom w/no problem once she is home?? Will she be able to walk in a week? I am confused of the severity of a pelvic w/4 brks!! I mean her horse went up and completly on top of her driving her saddle horn into her pelvic region-than had to be air lifted to hospital! Is the hosp. just pushing her out w/out having her best interest taken into account? She has fiancially always paid for medical insurance on her own-NEVER-has she needed assistance from govt. owns her own home plus rentals ,never has she missed any bill payments etc. my point is she goes to routine Dr. yrly physicals appts. so I know she does not/has not taken advantage of her medical insurance-so why is 5 days appropriate?? Does anyone know if surgey will help her heal properly-better-or is this not part of pelvic injury’s!! shouldn’t she be in a cast?? See I do not know whom to ask-seeems like some people have some answers I’m curious for opions

  • JNguyen Says: April 20th, 2009 at 1:08 am

Everybody here is so funny. First off let me start by saying that you all have made very good points…however; everyone had contributed to this one point; it all depends if YOU fuck up…Personally I think that sports that are independent are more dangerous do to the fact that it’s all on you, there’s nobody to help you out; there may be some support but if you hurt yourself it’s still on you. Pole-vaulting for instance (I’m not saying it’s the most dangerous sport, it’s just the sport I’ve had the most experience in), every little move counts. Running, it takes skill to accelerate to a point where you can basically have an “effortless” jump. If your run is off, your step is off. If your step is off, your plant is off. If your plant is off and you jump, well you’re pretty much screwed…if you don’t pull your arm muscle, you’re veered to one side and if you’re veering to one side you’re bound to hit a metal standard after jumping up into the air going fifteen feet up. Tell me that’s not dangerous. Not to mention there’s always after you execute your run and jump perfectly, there’s also swinging you’re leg to the point where you can get over the bar. If you don’t swing enough you don’t even land in the pads, you’re headed down for metal ground that had a downward slope (the pit) I would know because I’ve done this many times…not to mention the many times that I’ve messed up jumping and ended up going completely vertical but instead of landing in the pads, landing on my head backwards from 12 feet up. How is that not dangerous? Cheer leading…yes yes it’s dangerous..you’ve all elaborated on the dangers of it…but really…if you mess up as a flyer, it’s up to the base to catch you. So really, it’s only dangerous if you let unskilled people participate, as any other sport. However, in horseback riding….you can be as good as you want…you could be the absolute best…but if the animal isn’t in your control you’re fucked; you’re with a wild animal as opposed to a human who you CONTROL to catch you, who you train to catch you, who you prepare for the mistakes. It’s all in the horses nature of when it wants to do what it does. So yes…maybe cheer leading is dangerous…but I would have to say horseback riding is MORE dangerous…because it’s all out of your control.

Hahaha Megan I laugh at you xD Why? Because…happen to know the world record for pole vaulting? It’s…22 feet and a number of inches. When they increase the height it’s only by 1 inch per. So think about it, 1 person is being thrown 20 feet up in cheer leading. In pole vaulting….1 person vaults OVER 20 feet just to move 1 inch up. (Honestly I don’t even think you’re thrown 20 feet up…) After an missed attempt…you jump AGAIN….say you barely skid over the bar and it falls…you have to make ANOTHER attempt at 20 feet….so let’s count now (or rather do simple math). 20 feet – 21 feet, 12 inches. That’s 12 attempts only if you don’t mess up. 12 times you’re up in the air. Going to the record, that’s 24 times that someone was OVER twenty feet, with nobody to catch them if they mess up, with the risk of landing on their neck on the pads, with the risk of going off to the side…Honestly..which sounds more dangerous?

  • My view Says: May 30th, 2009 at 10:51 pm

Allegedly, cheerleading is the most dangerous womens’ sport based upon INJURY. Horseback riding is the most dangerous sport based upon FATALITY. You are more likely to be injured than die in either sport, so cheerleaders are at more of a day-to-day risk. However, if you choose to ride horses, you have a less chance of being injured, but a higher chance of being killed. I think it’s up to you to judge which is worse. Likewise, many other sports and extreme sports involve injury or death but I believe, from reading statistics, that these two (most often argued here) are actually the most dangerous, each in their own respect.

I myself played rugby for a while and suffered many injuries there. However, I also compete with horses at a high level and have suffered three concussions which have had long-lasting effects and countless sprains, bruises, and gashes. Yes, sometimes people just ’sit on’ horses but the equestrian sport which is held in the Olympics, eventing, is what I compete in and involves not only the need for full-body fitness in order to stay on the quickly moving, rapidly shifting frame of the animal and bend it to your will, but the ability to stay calm when the animal chooses to take its own course and you are literally being thrown into or over immobile fences at the whim of mother nature and literally on the verge of death. It is truly a formidable sport and should be seen as no less.

I am sure that many other sportsmen and women can say the same.

  • Edgar Says: May 31st, 2009 at 1:27 pm

What about ski racing? All the deaths and injuries that happned. I’d the higher risk of sport makes it more dangerous; how many injuries have happned in it more accident prone.

  • Anon Says: June 2nd, 2009 at 11:11 pm

    Here’s my honest opinion.

The sports listed on this site are “extreme” sports. These are classified well.
The sports everyone are talking about are “common place” sports.

There is a big debate going on here, and I will just say what I think.

    A) Horseback Riding is extremely dangerous. Exactly the reasons everyone else is saying.

    B) Cheerleading is also dangerous, but only if you are the flyer.

    C) Everyone else’s sports are dangerous.

    D) THEY ARE ALL DANGEROUS IN THEIR OWN WAY. Does it matter if you think that Cheer is more dangerous than horseback riding? No. Nobody cares, nobody wants your opinion. I have played most of these sports, and they have all caused me different types of injuries.

Leave it up to the experts.

  • Devan Says: July 19th, 2009 at 1:37 am

CHEERLEADING IS A SPORT!!!!! THE ONLY REASON SOME PEOPLE DONT LIKE CHEERLEADING IS BECAUSE THEY ARE TOO FAT TO DO IT OR THEY TRIED OUT FOR A SQUAD AND DIDNT MAKE IT!!! AND IF YOU THINK ITS SO EASY LETS SEE YOU GET OUT THERE AND DO A ROUND OFF BACKHANDSPRING FULL!!!! I HAVE SEEN PEOPLE HAVE TO CALL THE AMBULANCE BECAUSE OF AN ACCIDENT WITH CHEERLEADING!!!! ONE WRONG MOVE AND THE BASES COULD KILL THE TOP GIRL!!! AND WE DONT HAVE PADS TO PROTECT US IF WE FALL! IF CHEERLEADING WAS EASY THEY WOULD CALL IT FOOTBALL!!!!!!

  • ninjakiwi Says: July 20th, 2009 at 7:52 am

Look. All sports are dangerous and carry some risks. Being thrown in the air, being steped on by a bull or horse-all these can lead to death. Whose more dead; the person who died from cheering or horse riding?

  • tumblefreak Says: July 24th, 2009 at 6:02 pm

What is a sport?? How can you define something as a sport??
Look up the definition and you will find that competitivive cheerleading
(NOT high school cheerleading) meets all the criteria necessary to be
considered a sport. And yes, it is one of the most dangerous. There are over
50,000 deaths a year due to cheerleading accidents, and just as
many injuries. I can say from experience that its a difficult and
    dangerous sport.

  • xoxcinemaxox Says: July 26th, 2009 at 1:06 pm

Just to let you all know those sports up there are bull shit! horse backriding in deff. the most dangerous sport! i just got out of the ER with 3 broken ribs, cuts on my face, and a broken leg! tht is just from my horse slipping in the mud bc he didnt want to jump a jump! in horse backriding you are dealing with a 1,000 pound animal with a mind of its own. if it doesnt want to do something its not going to! horseback riding is the sport that take heart, athletic ability and lots of muscle! in cheerleading people can help you in the air and help you if you fall and people can prevent that! in horse backriding there no preventing of that stuff! once you get on that horses back nobody can help you only urself! i would love all of you lilttle prissy cheerleaders to get on my 16.3 hh warmblood and take him through a 3′9 course like i do every week! see if you can hang on when he bucks..see if you can hold on…see if ur “muscles” can handle it… see if you have the guts to do it! my guess is most of you dont! so suck on tht!

  • xoxcinemaxox Says: July 26th, 2009 at 1:14 pm

and btw in cheerleading you get hurt in horsebackriding you can die! im on my 5th concussion!

  • Gymnastlvl8 Says: July 26th, 2009 at 8:33 pm

cheerleading and gymnastics is a toss up,they are both the most phisicially demanding sports in the world, but personaly cherleaders can tumble, dance, and cheer, they cant touch what us gymnasts can do,but dont get me wrong cheerleading should deffinetly be second or third.

  • Ainsley Says: July 31st, 2009 at 11:10 pm

why dont you prissy cheerleaders go holld a half tonne beast
(horse) inbetween your legs and then you come and tell us whether it is a dangerous sport.

Just 2 weeks ago i was competing in a barrels event, the round was a bit wet and my mare who is 580 kilos fell over, my foot stuck in the stirrup she rolled over my left side, rolled onto her back, i got hit in the chest by the saddle when she rolled on me moving my ribs into my lungs, and then rolled of and just clipped my wrist with her hoof.
#1 I could of died by being flattend and her landing on my chest.(oh yeah not dangerous at all)
#2 if my wrist was just another 3cms forward she would of stood on my wrist and completly broken it , shattereing every bone

(Oh yeah that ain’t dangerous at all)

  • Reagan Says: August 4th, 2009 at 10:25 pm

omg cheerleading is more dangerous um i dropped on a girl once and made her nose bleed and i broke my tailbone dislocated my shoulder too and have a 100 pound girl dropped on you how does that feel!

  • Samantha Says: August 8th, 2009 at 1:28 pm

Okay how about you all just shut the f$%k up? Because you all sound very stupid and immature. You know what? It’s not fair for anyone to sit here and claim that theyre sport is the most dangerous cause all of them are different and have different kinds of dangers and it doesn’t necessarily make one worse than another. I understand what makes people want to argue about it because all anyone really wants is respect for how much work they put into what they do. I think that is what makes cheerleaders lash out more than other athletes because they really dont get as much respect as they should. I think that the point really is to not judge something someone enjoys doing and works hard at before you have tried it yourself.

    Chloe:

REASHEARCH DOES NOT SLOVE EVERTHING!!! SO SHUT UP AND GET A DENG LIFE!!! Horseback riding is sooo dangerous. And think sometimes it is hard to hold on for Whar life. And yes I really mean dear life. Why you try to hold on for dear life on a bucking, rearing, crowhoping horse!!!! You would be able to stay on for long my friend. Even those cow boy guys will eventuy fall off. And don’t even get me started on jumping or racing! Did you know there are about 11 deaths are in cross counrty. And steeple chase you can get trample but not only 1 but maybee 10 horses! And sometimes we do hold on but the horse (1,000 1,2000 lb animals) just plob down on us. Here are some vids: (the first vid u have to wait for the falls) <param

  • Ben Says: August 30th, 2009 at 9:33 pm

Listen to what everyone is saying!!! The only people saying cheerleading is more dangerous is girls!!! Give me a break, if people are dying in cheerleading it’s there own d*** fault. For the girl who said she has to lift a 150 lb. Girl with one hand! Come on noones a complete idiot in here almost always it is with 2 hands and about 3-4 people. Even if you were lifting someone with one hand with four people the average wait would be about 37 lb. I could llift tht with my co**. Sport or not if your telling me that your knee hurts a little bit after cheerleading, it’s not dangerous. My knees hurt after a run or nething, mainly from soccer. I’m not saying soccer is the most dangerous but if u get thrown into a guys college level soccer game, I bet you can’t even get outta bed in the morning. I’m sure you could say the same thing for football or any other contact sport however I know tht this won’t change any of you little girls minds whose only other sport they played was maybe soccer when they were 6, grow up. Obviously any sport you play gets tougher as you get older. Don’t sit there and say that soccer or football or any other sport is less dangerous then cheerleading. No females can actually sit there and say that cheerleading is easier then football or MENS soccer because no cheerleader would EVER be able to last 5 minutes out on the field with us. I know this message isn’t going to get through to any of you cocky ( as most are ) cheerleaders. And if you try to say you aren’t cocky…READ YOUR COMMENTS.. None of those comments are open to discussion at all you just say what you think, no what you think you know. And the reason this discussion could never come to a conclusion is becuz everyone is trying to defend their sport! Instead of living in a shell and bickering all the god damn time, why don’t you get out and live a little. If your complaining that your sport is too hard, why not miss a practice with no excuse? That is called being yourself. Doing what you want is the best thing you could do for yourself. It’s being free people, that’s what really matters, get out of your daily routine and do something with your life! LIVE! Cuz I got news for all of you! In the end no one is gonna give a F*** about if you were good at cheerleading soccer football lacrosse horseback riding or Anything!!! Live people expand ur horizons and keep on going. No matter where you are keep on pushin cuz u only get on life! So live like the good god d*** lord intended you to. Free your mind and be spontaniois, I would be willing to bet my life you like where it takes you! But if you choose not to take my advice and live a blind sheltered life then so be it. In my eyes that’s letting down the most important being (”god” if u believe in that kind of thing). Obviously we were given the ability to think freely and for ourselves, so use that, and go out and enjoy yourself, have a glass of wine to give ur mind a break, and for gods sake quit bickering about sports! Cuz once again you could be the best sports player of all time and if your not living your own life, well then it’s a life not worth
living! So see the world drive through the country be spontaniois and do whatever YOU wanna do, and please, stop listening to this rap stuff. It takes no talent, roam the countryside listening to some 60’s rock n’ roll let the music speak for you.. It worked with a whole other generation why not ours. All together now, be free and follow the only 3 things that matter in life…PEACE.LOVE. N MUSIC!!!!!!! I’m 18 years old and livin life one day at a time! Da** well I feel better now…
    Peace n Love,

ok, im a guy. and i have played foot ball & lacrosse every since i was in 4th grade, i’m in 9th grade now and i cheer at my school. and i honestly have to say cheerleading requiers the most atleticism. and it is very dangerous. we spend 20 hours a week practising lifts and tosses. throwing girls up in the air, is not easy! you have to have muscle. all the dude cheerleaders on our team are more athletic then any of our varsity football players. cheerleading is deffainatley A SPORT ! you run your ass of everday to stay in shape ? spend your whole summer at camps to practice ? practice everday at school ? and all people see is football/basketball games. no1 sees us compete. it takes so much time and effort. i wish all you people who diss cheerleading could just see hw hard it really is. then i BET you would not be saying it isn’t a sport.

  • tony Says: September 27th, 2009 at 8:55 pm

cheerleading is the #1 dangerous sport in the world . Suck it .[:

  • natalie Says: October 7th, 2009 at 8:07 pm

okay ppl. cheerleadin is definitly NOT the most dangerous sport. the worst thing that happens while you’re cheerin is for someone to fall on you, and who’s fault is that? this girl on the field hockey team just got hit in the eye with the ball because the bitch on the other team got mad and hit it on OUR free hit. the bones around her eye are broken and she almost lost her sight. you know how many ppl get hit with the freakin field hockey ball? or stick? and for lax, i got a concussion cause some girl hit me with the ball on the head. skiing and snowboarding are dangerous too. you try and go off a jump on your board, you land wrong, and you break your hip or leg or neck or arm, etc. i agree with most of the other sports ppl are listing except like cheerleading. sorry :P . oh and field hockey is very hard to play. okay cheerleaders, you might run, but so do we! most sports you have to keep in shape for stupid!(tony). in the world?!?! hell no, what bout rugby?!?! it’s football without pads! they tackle eachother for a ball, and they tear muscles, break bones, etc. it’s horrible. and cheerleading is dangerous? throwing someone up in the air, wow real tough. and there’s also gymnastics and horse back ridin, and bull riding, and nas car. they technically compete. think bout it!

  • Kennedy Says: November 1st, 2009 at 7:47 pm

I think soccer should be on there cause all you have is shineguard that barley cover your shn. People can step on your foot of you can get elbowed which really hurt trust me. One time there was two girls going for the ball and one broke her elbow and the other broke her nose. You can also get hit in the face. If you are in professional soccer and you get hurt really bad you have to get up and walk your self back to the ben ch in pain. It should at leats be third on the list.An all of you that think cheerleading is a sport you are just plain dumb all it is flexibility. Soccer is a sport. so i would think twice before you think stupid cheerleading is a sport. Soccer can cause concusions, bleeding from someone cleet, and surious head pro., plus you can break a leg or a toe. and if you have asma you can get a asma attack
