wait is there somewhere to plug into it?? how does it charge your stuff if there isnt?
Yeah, that’s just what I was thinking – I cant see anywhere where the laptop is plugged in on the photo.
Where can it be purchased? Who manufactures it?
Hmm. I have three panels like the top of that “table.” I bought them when I fell for the Y2K scare, along with four 75-pound batteries and a charger panel. Two of the batteries have died, along with my interest in the thing. I was thinking about donating the stuff to a school, but maybe I’ll make a table or three.
It looks like a 12 volt cigarette plug on the side (?)
The problem as I see it is not the table but the laptop screen. Anytime you have enough sunlight to power the table, the screen would be unviewable due to glare and/or lack of brightness compared to the sunlight. I know that there are some laptops that have trans-reflective displays, but the vast majority do not. Most times, if I’m out on my patio, I have an umbrella over my table. What they need to design is a solar umbrella using those new nifty flexible solar sheets.
What a sillyidea. The more you use it, the more of the surface is covered, and the less power it provides.
How about a solar parasol?
hey guys, contacted the author for the source, the table was designed by “Sudia Design Labs” and they are saying on their website that the shipping will begin in March 08 and it’ll cost $3600.
Here is the link: http://suntable.net/
Thanks for the link. I understand the battery function and it seems more usable now. Playing devil’s advocate again, I’d expect that the people paying $3600 might want something a bit more elegant in appearance. A cheaper (and presumably lighter) version of this would be awesome to take on a camping trip.
This is so stupid so if you have your laptop a notbook and some documents youve just basically covered up half the surface space to the table…good job thinking it through..
also as stated when enough sun is available to use the table you cant use a laptop since no laptop except the one per child machine can be used in the sun.
Plus think about were most outdoor tables are located next to a building so potentially half the day the table will be covered by shade…this is a big reason why solar panels are placed on roofs or in the middle of nowhere
Well I think when its charging you wouldn’t want to use it anyway. The table would be great to use at night or
at other times though
I’m sure that there is a place to plug it in sense thats the whole point.
To “stupid idea if using the table”:
The table probably has some sort of energy storage (battery) so it would be interesting to know how long it could supply power for when covered up, and how long it takes to charge up.
Both the Lincoln and Kennedy autopsies were performed on tables similar to this, although only the “Kennedy” model could recharge your laptop.
$3600 dollars!!
Heck I will build them and deliver them for $1525 with AC output and DC output for charging your cell phone.
My company is starting to move into this business and there is no way that this thing should cost that much. We will integrate the solar cells into a traditional table, as the way that this thing is done will cut 90% of the solar output.
email us at [email protected] if you are interested in such a product. If I get fifteen orders I will build them right away for delivery before Feb 10, 2008.

Dennis, did you look at the website? I’ve worked in solar for years, and systems this size
cost this much. The only way you could sell it for less is to lower the panel’s wattage, use less batteries, etc.
I don’t pay retail for panels.
Dennis, they’ve got a patent on it . i’d watch out.
i think my boss should take a look for the energy saving option….!!!!
Seriously, a portable fold-up campsite version would be awesome. Imagine you leave it out in the sun during the day to charge up your solar batteries while you go hiking, kayaking, etc. When you return in the evening you use the table for your diner and power your lights and other camp appliances / gadgets with the FULLY charged solar batteries! I could definitely see a market for that.
