Think for Yourself

March 13th, 2008

You’ve got to speak for yourself, decide for yourself and think for yourself! That’s the message the Metro Newspaper is trying to send! According to their advertising campaign, the paper just provides the facts without imposing their editors ‘ views, so that the readers can decide for themselves what is right and what is wrong.

the editor still decides which stories to run though. their current top stories – the stories that they feel everyone should read – are about missing/abducted children and a teenager who was raped and killed abroad.
in those stories they fail to mention the ‘fact’ about how rare these type of events truly are. without putting news like that into context, they are still making my mind up for me. ie. that the world is a terrifying and horrible place. facts taken out of all context and blown out of proportion are just as bad as lies or forced opinions.

Wait do you mean to say that all advertising isn’t true?
That humans aren’t capable of complete objectivity?
    Who would have ever known
