t.A.T.u. is a duo formed in Moscow, Russia that consists of Lena Katina and Yulia Volkova. It was quite well-known in the US in 2002-2003. At that time they were presented as a lesbian couple, but their 2003 documentary, Anatomy of t.A.T.u., made it clear that this was just part of the group’s image, and that they were not lesbians. It really is Yulia or should be spelled that way to avoid confusion. Spelling the name Юлия as “Julia,” while not technically wrong, leads many people to pronounce it the English way. It is pronounced: You-Lee-Yah, never Jew-lee-uh.
