Steepest Street in the World

The steepest street in the world is Baldwin Street, located in Dunedin, Southern New Zealand. It starts with a moderate slope but increases rapidly until it reaches a staggering 19 degrees incline! That may not sound like alot, but check out the pics below and you’ll understand how steep this baby actually is. Funny thing is, it is so steep that the surface has to be laid with concrete instead of asphalt otherwise the tar will start flowing down the street on a hot day! Anyone with a death wish can try blading or skateboarding down….

    wow helena, tks for sharing that. If that is really true, somebody needs to correct the guys from the “Organization of Steep Slopes”. Can anyone verify the 45-degree incline?

    But they are talking about «degrees», we had 45 PERCENT. So I asked Mr Google and here is the solution:

    100% = 45° => 1% = 0,45° —-> so the the street on the acores is 20.25 degrees. Sorry for the confusion ;-) )

    Please. There are steeper streets here in San Francisco. Parts of Hyde street are over 21 degrees. Many streets are over 19 degrees.

    [...] È Baldwin Street a Dunedin (Nuova Zelanda), conosciuta per essere la strada più ripida del mondo. È così ripida che la pavimentazione è in cemento, perché l’asfalto nelle giornate più calde scivolerebbe giù! [fonte] [...]
