his work of art was made by Anish Kapoor and can be found in Millennium Park, Chicago. It is made of 168 highly polished pieces of stainless steel plates and is 33-feet tall, 66-feet long and 42-feet wide. It looks almost like a giant drop of mercury that fell from the sky. However, it’s beauty cannot be denied. With it’s undulating reflective surfaces, it creates unique reflections of the Chicago skyline with the passing of day, as the light from the sun shifts and changes. Anish Kapoor intended for this beautiful sculpture to be a gate into Chicago by the city it reflects and thus the title. Impressive how something seemingly so simple can be so wonderfully beautiful.

This is amazing!
Anish Kapoor is credited as the artist but I know the guys who fabricate all of his pieces in a warehouse here in Oakland, California. They get drawings and basic dimensions, then they have to engineer the entire project. It’s an amazing process to witness and the talent that goes in to the framing alone is a marvel. All you have to do is come up with the money and an idea and they can make it. They are the true artists if you ask me.
