High speed photography is as much an art as painting a beautiful water-painting. There are many parameters that go into the successful capture of a high-speed photography. Things like equipment, patience, technique, environment all need to be considered.
The successfully capture of an event taking place within a split-second depends largely on how quickly the film is exposed to light. Thus, photographers try to get extremely short flash periods, where the shorter the burst of light, the better. Noticed that most high-speed pictures are taken against a background of black? This is precisely why, since the photographer can just leave the camera’s shutter open and the film won’t get exposed in complete darkness. Once the event takes place, the short burst of flash from the camera will cause the event to be the only imprint left on the film. Flash durations can be as fast as 0.00003 seconds.
Then how does a photographer take high-speed shots in broad daylight? By relying on extremely fast shutter speeds of their very very expensive cameras. Enough said, hope this allows you to better appreciate these beautiful photographers that probably took lots of time and effort to produce.
