A class of five-year old schoolchildren return to the classroom after playing in the playground during their break time.
The teacher says to the first child ‘hello Becky, what have you been doing this playtime?’
Becky replies ‘ I have been playing in the sand box’
‘Very good’ says the teacher ‘if you can spell ’sand’ on the blackboard, I will give you a biscuit’
Becky duly goes and writes ’s a n d’ on the blackboard.
‘Very good’ says the teacher and gives Becky a biscuit.
The teacher then says ‘Freddie, what have you been doing in your playtime?’
Freddie replies ‘playing with Becky in the sand box’
‘Very good’ says the teacher. ‘If you can spell ‘box’ on the blackboard, I will also give you a biscuit’
Freddie duly goes and writes ‘b o x’ on the blackboard.
‘Very good’ says the teacher and gives Freddie a biscuit.
Teacher then says ‘Hello Mohammed, have you been playing in the sand box with Becky and Freddie?’
‘No’ replies Mohammed, ‘I wanted to, but they would not let me. Every time I went near them they started throwing sand at me and calling me nasty names’
‘Oh dear’ says the teacher. ‘That sounds like blatant racial discrimination to me……………..
I tell you what, if you can spell ‘blatant racial discrimination’ I will give you a biscuit’

more race humor. sad.
And this is funny…… why? Disappointing.
damn the racists.
any chance you lot will crawl out of your own a$$’s and realise that its a harmless joke that isn’t even that offensive really
and i know that you already wana call me a racist – grow up
Hehehehe…. funny ! Well, a little bit anyway.
And for the morons in the peanut gallery who always have RACE on the brain – the joke is not racist – not even close. Islam is not a race – it’s a religion.
The method of this joke is called “making fun of the outsider”. It’s a universal characteristic of humor, happens all over the world. Every culture does it. If you can’t laugh at it, it just means you have no sense of humor.
And Arab Muslims are certainly outsiders in Western culture.
Serious Truth: it would be best for all concerned if they stayed that way for a long, long time.
Oh dear, it’s getting to the stage where a person can’t even say words like Muslim, black or negro without being accused of racism. This joke is in no way racist… not even slightly but it is very funny. The fact that the joke involves a Muslim is incidental, the humour is derived from the hypocrisy of the teacher.
I have a very clear idea in my head what racism really is; racism usually involves some sort of generalisation and/or I believe there needs to be malice or intent. If I were to say; “that man is as black as the ace of spades”, would I be racist?… absolutely not. It is simply an innocent observation. I didn’t say he should be ostracised because of it. Now I tend to agree with a-brit and Fred (above comments), but to quote Fred:
“And Arab Muslims are certainly outsiders in Western culture.
Serious Truth: it would be best for all concerned if they stayed that way for a long, long time.
”
…that is certainly racist. It says that a group of people should be alienated based on their race or religion… That, I disagree with.
As a footnote however:
I maintain this joke is not racist BUT like a lot of things in life there is an appropriate time and place. For example: I think it would be inappropriate to tell this joke to a classroom of young impressionable children. Reason being is that this joke does use racial dimorphism as tool in deriving humour. I think juxtaposing race and humour would send the message to a child that different races are funny pure and simple, which is a complete misinterpretation of the joke.
Matt.
In addition to my above comment;
much in the same way as movies are given classifications because the content is inappropriate or may be misinterpreted by young children, I think this joke deserves a rating of PG or M. The fact that adults (and I’m assuming the first 3 comments were posted by adults), misinterpret this joke I find absolutely amazing.
