Since I tend to work in a few locations and my main machine at home is a desktop I needed an easy way to move my files around. This site is quite image heavy so I have thousands of pictures lined up that have to be posted still. I picked up the Western Digital My Book 1TB USB 2.0 drive and have been very happy with it. Now this unit is a bit heavy at 4 pounds, but I have always had great luck with WD products. There are a few versions of this device that add network connectivity, firewire, and different space configurations. I liked the larger size because it also allowed me to back up my desktop and laptop and still have plenty of space for my files. If you have a lot of data on your machine and are tired of burning DVDs to back up your system an external hard drive is the direction you should be going.

Hey Pony, I got one of them drives too, from UK company Ebuyer, other online stores available.
It really is a great drive for additional storage for your pics or mp3s.
I have even used to back up a complete Vista installed PC, with My Documents, whilst it was sent for repair.
it is great – i backup my wife’s macbook when it had to go in…good thing too because they couldn’t fix it and didn’t ship the unit back. Got a new machine out of the deal, but glad I had all of her data. She would have bitched for days.
IM ABOUT TO PIC ONE OF THESE UP DUE TO I HAVE TONS OF METAL MUSIC SPANING FROM 80′S TO NOW PLUS MUSIC VIDEOS AND MOVIES.AND MY EXTERNAL OF 500GB AS WELL AS MY DESK TOP OF 500GB IS ALMOST FULL THEY HAVE IT AT WALMART FOR 115 BUCKS….. TO THINK I MIGHT HAVE TO GET 2!!!!!
I got that HD a week ago..its pretty good…quiet and the style is good…only thing with mine is that is shows finger prints from the glossy finish…not sure if they have matte ones like their smaller HD’s.
I kept the plastic protecting stuff on mine, until the kids peeled it off.
every device i own gets finger prints, Samsung TV, iPhone, PS3, monitor…new stuff looks cool but hard to keep looking shiny
