busted mirror, the cover was put there because idiots keep hitting the mailbox with the car. And apparently the “idiot” was trying to avoid another car that was coming in his direction but was too close to the middle of the road(which has lines).

It’s not the mailbox that did the damage but the mailbox security cover. Security covers are typically used over mailboxes in the rural areas to keep the kids from ‘whacking’ off the mailboxes with ye ole baseball bat… BTW, what idiot would side-swipe their Jeep against a mailbox?
