Looks innocent enough doesn’t it? A bottomless pit that leads to the depths of hell right? Nope! It’s part of a California dam that handles rising water and shoots it out the base of the dam. Wonder if you can ride the drain to the bottom and survive.

Really fentasticussssss
There’s three factors to consider:
1. Surviving the fall;
2. The pressure at the bottom as the water gets funneled into a smaller pipe;
3. The speed at which you get thrown out though the nossle will tear you limb from limb.
This is assuming there isn’t anything else in there that can crush you or trap you.
It’s the ‘Glory Hole’. This is Monticello dam at Lake Berryessa, east of Winters, California. The dam is named after the small town which was drowned when the dam was made in the 1950′s…Nice!
So when a Dam is made towns are drowned??? and plus why is the dam made for just to make power for towns? or some other reason?
Such nozzles are also a source for waterfall down into a turbine generating electric power from the potential energy of the waterfall. I find it strange there is no type of protection preventing large objects to enter.
Anyone notice that the hole is on the same side of the lake as the road is on? One hell of a speeding deterrent. Sign posted: Speed and become fish chum!
I wonder how deep is the hole…
Soendoro Soetanto
Its deep around 100 ft or so. Straight cement pipe all the way through. Been down there once or twice, really creepy looking up and realizing all of lake berryessa is right on top of you but it still really cool.
when god was distributing brains I am not sure where was I… This is completely out of the world. I could have never imagined anything of this sort
very nice,i have actually seen a dam very similar to this one in argentina,its name is dam san roque
