Antarctica is probably one of the harshest environment to live in. It is the Earth’s most southern continent, overlying the South Pole. About 98% of Antarctica is covered by ice (taken from Wikipedia, but not sure if this is still true with global warming!). On average, Antarctica takes the records for the coldest, driest and windiest continent.

As these is very little rain, the interior of this continent is technically the largest desert in the world! Thus, there are really no permanent human residents there except crazy scientists and businessmen perhaps, who are usually there only for a period of time. Needless to say, very few creatures survive the conditions there, which are the penguins, seals, and various types of algae.

Despite all this, I’ve heard that it is an awesome sight to behold Antarctica with all its unspoiled terrain and beauty. I would love to take one of those Antarctica cruises someday…
